A day of dipping tapers

Dipping a taper means lowering a pair of wicks into hot wax, lifting them out and letting the layer cool before dipping again. A pair of tapers needs about forty dips.

It is rhythmic work that takes a whole afternoon. The tapers are then trimmed at the base and hung to harden.

Each pair is slightly different, which is the charm. Each pair is slightly different from the last, which is part of the charm.
